hello from taiwan

i've made it to taiwan! it's a little past midnight, though i'm not too sleepy. the hotel is super nice, complete with a tv in the bathroom and a walk-in closet. the flight was okay, i was in the deluxe class (in between economy and business), which had big seats and spacious leg room. my knee still hurt like a mother - this time around was definitely worse than my flight to london/spain. i almost popped in a vicodin, and i probably would have but it was in the middle of "night" and i didn't want to call an attendant to get me some water. took me a while to walk it off, but it's okay now.

my stupid moment of the day (well, i guess yesterday): i spent all friday morning grabbing screen shots of our new forecasting system (the reason why i'm in asia) and dumping them into powerpoint so that i could complete putting together the training material on the flight. since i did it on my work desktop, i emailed myself the file, then pulled the file onto my laptop. so when i pull out my laptop on the plane, i discovered i emailed myself the wrong file! DOH. i had all that time on the flight, and couldn't do any work. so... it's a little past midnight, but here i am just starting to write up the training materials so that i can play tomorrow without having it hang over my head.

my crazy connection of the day (yesterday): i've been running into people from all parts of my life randomly - like i've been working with this guy from the software company that we're using for the new forecasting system very closely over the last 8 months - he's the main systems solution architect, so we had to work with him from even the design phase. and it took us 7 months to discover that not only did we both go to cal, we were both ieor majors, he's one year above me, and we had classes together! ieor is a small major (what like 60-70 ppl per year?) and all our ieor classes were 30-35 people max, so everyone knew everyone... so we were so surprised that neither of us recognized each other. the vp of the company also went to cal - he told me his freshmen year at cal was the year of the play, so he got to see it live. how cool is that?

anyway, so yesterday, i got called into a last minute urgent meeting - one of the GMs i work with very closely has been in india, but got called into a very urgent last minute meeting on monday with a customer, so he needed to arm himself with a bunch of information. so one of the product managers and i met up, and she invited a new MBA intern because i guess he's kind of helping out in all areas with the GM for that business unit. i walk into the meeting - lo and behold, the MBA intern is someone from my high school! so random. it's too bad i'm pretty much phasing out of that job responsibility, otherwise i'd probably be working with him a lot this summer.

okay. i gotta get these training materials done so i don't have too much jet lag. i need to prepare myself to do a lot of eating!!
