saw the doctor

Update to below post: so i couldn't get an appt with my doctor today because he was double & triple booked - he's in surgery wed & fri, and i'm running a training session all day thurs at work so i wouldn't be able to get to PAMF. so i scheduled an appt today with my doctor's physician's assistant, which i was totally fine with because he's great. he explains every detail to me in a way i'll understand and has the best bedside manner i've ever seen, and i thought maybe my problem isn't so bad that i'd have to waste my doctor's time.

the PA called me in, saw me limping, gave me a pair of shorts to change into, and disappeared.

he came back with my doctor.

my doctor still can't figure out what's going on with my knee, and said he's never seen a situation like mine. they looked at my MRIs again, this time in great detail (PAMF's technology is pretty awesome, i've never seen anything like it - they can just grab digitals of my MRIs on the computer and zoom in and out and do other things with a click of the mouse). they looked at the pictures of the inside of my knee from my last scope. the only noticeable things are the same things he saw earlier - besides the scar tissue, about half my fat pad is missing (again, unfixable), and my ACL is indistinct. the PA talked about doing a scope, but my doctor said he wouldn't see anything that he can't see now and wouldn't be that helpful.

after more talking and looking at my knee, my doctor couldn't think of anything else besides another scope to see if my graft is causing issues. obviously they're against doing another ACL reconstruction, but they're perplexed at my condition and my ACL graft & position aren't the greatest. my doctor is a "specialist" in scar tissue and has patients from around the country fly in to see him, so i really value his words and opinions, much more so than any of the previous doctors who have seen my knee (yes, including the "famous" ones like the chief of orthopedic surgery/sports medicine at stanford/surgeon for the giants, or his buddy, the surgeon for the 49ers).

anyway, they decided to first give me a cortisone shot because it'll give them information on where my pain is. so they injected me with a mixture of cortisone and novocaine and i see my doctor in another week. i may dust off my crutches, or at least one crutch because walking is pretty painful. they don't want me off my leg completely because they need my quads to keep moving, but maybe the novocaine will help take some of the pain away so i don't need the crutch. i sure wish i brought my crutches to work today, though.
